From a rented van and 50 states to a home base in the Rockies — here’s how we got here.
2022 – 2026
We downsized for experiences
In 2022 we sold the excess, moved into a rented Vandoit, and hit the road full-time. The goal was simple: trade stuff for experiences and show our son the country from the ground up.
Over four and a half years we explored all 50 states, chased national parks, roadschooled on picnic tables and trailheads, and made a lifetime of memories — with Luna riding shotgun the whole way.
June 2026 · The Pivot
Then Kypton was ready to plant roots
On June 8, 2026, Kypton told us he was ready to settle down and chase mountain-bike racing for real. The very next day he flew to Canmore, Alberta for a race while we drove back to Kansas City, returned the Vandoit, and bought a Toyota Tundra. Then we pointed it toward Colorado.
Why Colorado? Kypton loves the mountains, it’s world-class terrain for training, he has friends here, and his junior national team — Donovan Racing — is based in the state. It just fit.
